Sand wedges: bounce and your conditions

A sand wedge is commonly used in bunkers and around greens, but loft alone does not describe its performance. Sole shape, bounce and the player's delivery interact.

Specifications to compare

  • Loft
  • Bounce and sole width
  • Heel and trailing-edge relief
  • Typical sand and turf

A useful fitting test

Test in the sand and grass you normally play. Compare how the sole enters and exits the surface on ordinary strikes, not just a perfect demonstration.

Trade-offs

Do not assume high bounce is only for beginners or low bounce is always more skilled. Conditions and delivery matter.

Example decision

Soft sand and a steep entry may ask for a different sole than firm turf with a shallow motion.

Before buying

Confirm the exact model, playing side, loft, shaft, length, condition and return terms. Use the manufacturer’s current specification sheet for the actual club. This guide does not claim a product test or a guaranteed result.
