Golf gloves: secure contact without bunching
A glove can help maintain a secure grip, but fit and dry contact matter more than brand. Many golfers wear it on the lead hand; preferences vary.
Before choosing
- Try the glove on the hand you use for the lead grip.
- Check fingertip length and palm bunching.
- Close the fastening without stretching it to its limit.
- Keep a dry spare for wet conditions if needed.
Practical test
Hold a club while testing the fit. The glove should not slide or fold beneath the fingers. Compare sizes before assuming the handle needs a change.
Common mistakes
Do not use a damaged or slick glove to compensate for worn grips. Avoid forcing a size that restricts circulation or movement.
Example
Extra material in the palm can make a secure grip feel less stable even when the glove seems comfortable at rest.
