Launch monitors: choose the measurement you need

A launch monitor should answer your practice or fitting question in the space you have. Devices differ in measured parameters, calculations and indoor requirements.

Before choosing

  1. Check minimum space and ball-flight requirements.
  2. Identify measured versus calculated numbers.
  3. Confirm ball or club marker requirements.
  4. Review ongoing software costs and data export options.

Practical test

List three questions you want it to answer, then test those features in your actual setup. Compare repeatability before paying for extra metrics.

Common mistakes

Do not assume a low-cost device provides the same club data as a different measurement system. Do not compare normalized carry with raw outdoor carry without noting the difference.

Example

A device that reliably measures carry gaps may be sufficient for bag planning even if it lacks detailed club delivery data.

Check the manufacturer’s current instructions and specifications for the exact product. This is an educational selection guide, not a hands-on product review.
