Clubface control at impact

On centered contact, the face strongly influences starting direction. Curvature also depends on its relationship to the path, so straight starts do not guarantee straight finishes.

Work through it

  1. Check face aim before setting your feet.
  2. Mark the strike location.
  3. Record initial direction separately from final landing position.
  4. Make small grip or setup experiments one at a time.

A practical example

A ball starting near the target then curving away may need a face-to-path check, not simply a change in aim.

Practice task

Use a short iron and a visible start corridor. Hit ten short shots and count starts left, center and right. Repeat with one carefully chosen change.

Common mistakes

Do not judge face control only from where the ball finishes. Driver gear effect and wind can add curvature that masks the original start.

Choose a comfortable movement and change one variable at a time. Stop if a movement causes pain; a qualified coach can adapt the task to your mobility and experience.
