Dynamic loft: the loft you deliver

Dynamic loft is the face's vertical orientation at impact. It differs from the club's stamped loft because shaft position, face orientation and delivery change during the swing.

Work through it

  1. Read the actual static loft on the manufacturer's specification sheet.
  2. Measure dynamic loft under consistent conditions.
  3. Compare it with attack angle, launch and contact.
  4. Test a small setup or fitting change rather than forcing the hands forward.

A practical example

Two players using the same iron can launch differently because they deliver different loft and strike the face differently.

Practice task

Record ten representative iron shots. Note which combine reliable carry and stopping flight. Use a fitter or coach to interpret the relationship rather than treating less loft as always better.

Common mistakes

Do not confuse a low launch with better compression. Too little delivered loft can create flight that does not hold a green.

Choose a comfortable movement and change one variable at a time. Stop if a movement causes pain; a qualified coach can adapt the task to your mobility and experience.
