MY GOLF BLUEPRINT
Uneven lies: balance before distance
An uneven lie changes balance, delivery and sometimes the effective face direction. A smaller swing and a safer target are often useful starting choices.
Work through it
- Assess whether the stance is stable and safe.
- Adjust posture to the slope without forcing the body.
- Choose a club and target that allow a shorter controlled motion.
- Expect carry and curvature to differ from a level lie.
A practical example
A ball above the feet may encourage a leftward tendency for a right-handed player, but delivery and strike can change the outcome.
Practice task
On a permitted practice slope, make short shots from one lie type at a time. Record start direction and carry before combining slopes.
Common mistakes
Avoid precise universal yardage adjustments. Do not attempt an unstable stance near a steep edge; take the available safe option or applicable relief.
Choose a comfortable movement and change one variable at a time. Stop if a movement causes pain; a qualified coach can adapt the task to your mobility and experience.
