Gap wedges: fill a measured distance gap
A gap wedge is useful when it covers a real gap between your set wedge and higher-lofted wedges. Its number should follow measured distances.
Specifications to compare
- Actual loft
- Full and partial carry
- Sole and bounce
- Similarity to set or specialist wedges
A useful fitting test
Measure neighboring clubs first. Test a candidate wedge with several representative shots and check whether the mean carry and spread create a useful step.
Trade-offs
Do not buy a particular loft simply because it is commonly called a gap wedge. Different sets need different solutions.
Example decision
If a partial pitching-wedge shot already covers the distance reliably, another club may be less urgent than a gap at the long end.
Before buying
Confirm the exact model, playing side, loft, shaft, length, condition and return terms. Use the manufacturer’s current specification sheet for the actual club. This guide does not claim a product test or a guaranteed result.
