Golf GPS watches: use the map as a guide

A GPS watch can provide course distances without a visible flag. Accuracy depends on mapping, reception and the device's current data.

Before choosing

  1. Check the correct course and hole.
  2. Confirm yard or meter units.
  3. Review front, middle and back distances.
  4. Understand which features are permitted in your format.

Practical test

Compare several readings with course markers. Use the numbers as planning information and allow for your own shot dispersion.

Common mistakes

Do not treat a mapped green center as the day's pin position. Keep the device updated through the manufacturer's supported process.

Example

A front-edge distance may be more useful than the flag when the priority is simply carrying trouble safely.

Check the manufacturer’s current instructions and specifications for the exact product. This is an educational selection guide, not a hands-on product review.
