Pitching wedges: check the actual loft
The pitching wedge is usually the shortest iron in a set, but its loft varies across designs. That variation affects the gap to specialist wedges.
Specifications to compare
- Published loft
- Set construction
- Full-swing carry
- Partial-shot behavior
A useful fitting test
Measure carry with your own pitching wedge before choosing the next wedge. Test both full and partial shots and keep a realistic spread.
Trade-offs
Do not assume every pitching wedge is the same loft. The stamped letter cannot determine the next club for your bag.
Example decision
A strongly lofted set wedge may leave a large distance gap to a traditional sand wedge unless another club fills it.
Before buying
Confirm the exact model, playing side, loft, shaft, length, condition and return terms. Use the manufacturer’s current specification sheet for the actual club. This guide does not claim a product test or a guaranteed result.
