MY GOLF BLUEPRINT

Choose tees that fit your carry

Choose tees that leave realistic shots and manageable forced carries. Age and gender labels are less useful than your own distances and experience.

Work through it

  1. Look at total length, long par 4s and forced carries.
  2. Compare those carries with your ordinary distances, not your best.
  3. Ask the starter about beginner-friendly options.
  4. Move forward when the course repeatedly demands shots outside your range.

A practical example

A player carrying a drive 170 yards should not plan around a 190-yard forced carry simply because one exceptional drive rolled that far.

Practice task

Review three approach distances after a round. If nearly every approach needs your longest club, try a shorter set of tees next time.

Common mistakes

Do not let a group tradition force everyone onto unsuitable tees. A shorter course can still test accuracy and decision-making.
