MY GOLF BLUEPRINT

Avoid short-sided misses

A short-sided miss leaves little green between the ball and the hole, often demanding a difficult recovery. The safe target depends on where trouble sits.

Work through it

  1. Locate the flag within the green.
  2. Identify the side with more landing and recovery space.
  3. Aim so your ordinary pattern favors that space.
  4. Accept a longer putt when the alternative risks a demanding chip.

A practical example

A central target can leave a longer putt but a much simpler miss than attacking a tucked flag beside a steep bunker.

Practice task

Review five missed greens and note how much green remained for the recovery. Look for a repeated aim decision rather than only the missed swing.

Common mistakes

Do not always aim away from the flag without checking the other hazards. Use the whole green and surrounding terrain.
