Etiquette and practical course care. Follow local guidance.

Courses differ in whether they want a divot replaced, a repair mix used or another method followed. Local grass and maintenance practices determine the right approach.

Practical steps

  1. Read the course notice or ask staff.
  2. Replace a suitable divot only where instructed.
  3. Use the supplied mix as directed.
  4. Leave the surface reasonably level without creating a mound.

Example

A course may provide sand or a seed mix on carts and tees. Use that material according to its instructions rather than assuming every course is the same.

Avoid this

Do not fill a divot with an unrelated material or scrape turf to improve the lie of a ball you still need to play.
