Low driver launch: checks and practice

A low drive may come from delivered loft, low-face contact, a poor strike or the chosen equipment. The flight alone cannot identify the cause.

Possible causes

  • Low dynamic loft
  • Low-face impact
  • Inadequate loft for the player's delivery

Simple checks

  1. Check strike height first.
  2. Compare launch with ball speed and spin if measured.
  3. Review ball position and tee height.

A practice drill

Record ten ordinary drives with a launch monitor or reliable strike marker. Test one setup or loft change at a time with a fitter.

Avoid this trap

Do not buy a softer shaft on the assumption that it must launch higher. Shaft labels are not standardized performance guarantees.

The checks narrow the possibilities; they do not confirm a diagnosis. Keep a record of several shots and ask a qualified coach to connect the pattern to your swing.
